Sindh Kamran Tessori governor announces 80 yard plots for victims of collapse of the Lyari building


The principal minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Memon, said Tuesday that it is not possible for the provincial government to provide homes for all displaced residents after 11 buildings were classified as dangerous and evacuated.

Speaking in a segment of news transmitted on a private television channel, the minister said that around 740 buildings in Sindh have been declared insecure, with at least 51 classified as extremely dangerous. He added that eleven buildings of the last category were evacuated.

However, the provincial government would offer temporary homes to some families, similar to the previous efforts made for flood and COVID-19 victims, Memon said.

The minister reported that the Control Authority of the Sindh (SBCA) building has begun to demolish insecure structures near the collapsed structure of the five -story building in the Baghdadi area of ​​Lyari, which charged at least 27 lives.

The local government of Sindh, Saeed Ghani, had announced that each affected family would be given a million as compensation.

Subsequently, the provincial government suspended the Director General of the SBCA and suspended the officials of the regulatory body in charge of the area.

Meanwhile, the governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, announced on Tuesday that 80 -yard plots will be given to the affected families of the Lyari building collapse.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Tessori said: “I arrived to Karachi today and, without wasting time, I have come to Lyari. I will send all my suggestions about this tragedy to the government of Sindh through a letter.”

Tessori emphasized that the collapse of the building was not a minor incident. “There will be no silence on this matter, and those responsible will be responsible,” he said, recognizing the efforts of Sindh Ghani and Nabil Gabol ministers so far.

He urged the provincial government to provide six months of rent and relocation in the same area for now evacuated residents of the 11 dangerous buildings.

Tessori said that the governor’s chamber would remain active to guarantee support for victims and offer essential resources such as ration and employment opportunities.

The governor extended his support for agricultural families, many of which come from the Hindu community, and reported that an aid line, 1133, has been established to receive help.
