Islamabad:
On Wednesday, a five-member Supreme Court, headed by Judge Aminuddin Khan, sought responses from the governments of Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for a plea for the compulsory education of the Sacred Koran in the country.
During an audience, the Federal Government, in addition to the Punjab and the governments of Baluchistan, has presented their responses to the plea, while the governments of Sindh and KP were looking for time for their presentations on the matter.
At first, Judge Jamal Commandkhail commented that, according to the response, the Federal Government had initiated measures to teach the Sacred Koran. “Let the government do their job,” he said, asking why the court should interfere.
The petitioner told the Court that according to the law, only that translation of the Sacred Koran could be used in which there was a general consensus. The petitioner added that it was also mandatory for the federal government to approve the translation.
The court sought responses from the governments of Sindh and KP on the subject and postponed the hearing indefinitely.
