The Interior Minister of Sindh, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, has advised the Chinese citizens who presented a petition before the Superior Court of Sindh (SHC) against the alleged police harassment that comply with the standard operational procedures (POE) established to address such concerns .

Speaking to the media on Monday, Lanjar emphasized that Chinese citizens must channel their complaints through the Chinese consulate or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the protocols jointly prepared by the Government of Sindh and the Chinese consulate.

“These petitioners do not have any direct investment in Pakistan, or their request is legally solid,” said the minister. He added that he had ordered the Police Inspector (IG) to form a team to collaborate with the Consul General of China in Karachi to address the problem.

Lanjar reiterated the respect of the Sindh government for Chinese citizens, but stressed the importance of complying with official procedures. “We value our Chinese partners very much, but they must follow the SOP established by the Government in collaboration with the Chinese authorities,” he said.

The minister also announced plans to meet with the Chinese consul to issue an official statement on the matter and resolve concerns in a friendly way.

Last week, Lanjar reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to guarantee the safety of Chinese citizens, qualifying it as a higher priority. He assured that all measures described in the SOP are effectively implemented.

The Sindh government and the Sindh police have pledged to facilitate and protect Chinese investors through mutual cooperation.

The minister also emphasized that the sponsors of Chinese citizens must remain informed and the officials of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) must remain attentive when monitoring security measures.
