- Disney+ and Hulu users are closing their accounts on the Disney management of Jimmy Kimmel Live Saga
- The program of the presenter of the US interview program
- The conservative political activist was killed on September 10 in Utah
Disney faces an important reaction from Disney+ and Hulu users about the indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and his host.
In recent days, the strips of the entertainment giant fans base have led social networks to express their disgust for the management of the situation by Disney. And, in an attempt to make the Hollywood institution feel and take note, many have not only confirmed that they have canceled their subscriptions to two of the best transmission services in the world, but have asked others to do the same.
Kimmel, whose night interview program has been carried out for almost 24 seasons since its debut in January 2003, was removed from the air on Monday, September 15 by the comments he made about political activist Charlie Kirk. The open conservative was killed during an event at the University of Utah Valley on September 10.
Following Kimmel’s comments, Brendan Carr, president of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), threatened that ABC would face regulatory consequences if he did not act. In the hours that followed Carr’s warning, two of ABC’s largest affiliates in Nexstar and Sinclair confirmed that they would stop transmitting the Kimmel program. For the night of September 15, ABC announced that Kimmel’s accommodation privileges had been “indefinitely.”
Amid the broader political and cultural Fallout around the freedom of the press and freedom of expression itself, numerous creatives of Hollywood have punished Disney, ABC, Nexstar and Sinclair because it seems to bend the knee to the FCC and, by power, the Trump administration.
According to the Washington Post, a large number of actors, directors and producers have expressed their outrage at the suspension of Kimmel and its program. Going one step further Lost Cooking Damon Lindelof took Instagram on Thursday, September 18 (as reported by the wrapping) to affirm that he would not return to work for Disney or his subsidiaries until Kimmel was reinstated.
Tatiana Maslany, star of the Marvel television program She-Hulk: LawyerHowever, which was issued exclusively in Disney+ in mid -2022 has been the most vocal critic. Publishing in its Instagram history on Thursday (thanks to X/Twitter for screen capture), Maslany asked its 500,000 followers to boycott Disney transmission platforms in an attempt to force the giant of entertainment to delay their decision.

And that is what some of Maslany fans, in addition to many other furious subscribers, have done since the saga began.
The threads in the Reddit pages, such as R/Television and R/Entertainment, these are only two of numerous threads in these sub -reddits, they are full of comments from angry users who have said that they have closed their accounts or plan to cancel their subscriptions in the near future. That includes people who enrolled in Disney+ and Hulu, in addition to other services that require a subscription to use, such as National Geographic, ESPN and FX Now.
Some even go so far as to say that they will also boycott other properties owned by Disney, including Disneyland Resorts, Disney Cruise Forre and the merchandise of the company.
Reddit is not the only place where people threatens to boycott Disney in the long term, either. Users on X/Twitter, Instagram and Resta Forums are doing exactly that.
According to a redditor (see the publication integrated below), who says they used to work for Disney, there is a way to cancel its Disney+ subscription that will have a greater impact on the company that simply close your account through online media.
Understandably, the big question is: will any of this work?
In the last June count, the Combined Disney Subscribers figure for Disney+ and Hulu sat at 183 million. Obviously, as that is, that is a large number, so, unless dozens of millions of users close their accounts, it is unlikely that this boycott significantly affects Disney’s income flows.
According to a September 18 report by Bloomberg, Disney executives will meet Kimmel to discuss his future and his program in the near future. If you cannot reach a commitment, it is possible that more subscribers can get away from Disney+ and its sister platforms. However, it remains to be seen if it will be a number large enough to make Disney feel and take note.
