Six-member team to investigate alleged rape of minor in Sanghar

The Sindh police chief has constituted a six-member committee, headed by DIG Mirpurkhas Range, to investigate the alleged rape and torture case in Chautiarion area of ​​Sanghar district.

The committee, whose members include SSP Hyderabad Adeel Hussain Chandio, SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch, DSP Legal Zikria Korejo and two inspectors Abdul Hakeem Kumbhar and Zahid Kamboh, will have to submit weekly updates of the investigation to the IGP.

On January 20, a minor between the ages of 14 and 15 was allegedly raped and tortured in a village near Chautiarion. The son of an influential landowner, Wazir Rajar, has been accused in the FIR registered following the complaint of rape victim Shadbano Mallah.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary MNA Shazia Atta Marri on Sunday inquired about Mallah’s health by visiting her at Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), Hyderabad. Expressing solidarity, he assured the poor family that the government will provide them with the protection and support they need to fight for justice. “The incident was deeply distressing and left humanity ashamed,” the MNA said while speaking to the media at the hospital.

Mallah, who was allegedly raped on the night of January 20, was referred to LUH on January 22 from People’s University Medical Hospital, Benazirabad district.

The hospital formed a medical board of 12 doctors on January 23 to provide medical and psychological treatment to the patient besides maintaining the medico-legal record.

LUH spokesperson Asghar Ali Pathan informed that the patient underwent dental, facial and plastic surgeries. He also receives psychotherapy. The accused would have caused cuts with a sharp object on the victim’s forehead, nose, lips and tongue.

The FIR of the incident was registered at Chautiarion police station under sections 376, 311 and 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
