Skwrong prisoner statistics abroad.

Islamabad:

The Senate Permanent Committee on Pakistani abroad and human resources development deliberated on Friday about the growing number of Pakistani prisoners abroad.

The shocking details came to light during the meeting, chaired by Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, with respect to Pakistani prisoners abroad. The committee criticized officials for providing inappropriate information about people.

According to the Ministry data, approximately 417 prisoners serve in China, 598 in Greece, 463 in Malaysia, 738 in India, 578 in Oman, 422 in Qatar, 10,432 in Saudi Arabia and 5,297 in the UAE, Senator Zeeshan Khanzada stood out.

He commented that the data reflects the ministry’s efforts towards the repatriation of the prisoners.

The officials informed the committee that the repatriation agreements of prisoners have ended with 11 countries, while the discussions continue with another 15.

The committee recommended that the ministry provide detailed profiles of the prisoners to understand the nature of the crimes they committed. He also asked from community welfare fixations (CWAS) about the frequency with which they meet with prisoners.

Senator Kazim Ali Shah said that well -being services have not been extended to the prisoners of Sindh. The committee decided to review the quarterly performance of community welfare attachments and recommended allowing them to hire local diaspora members to expand more effectively the well -being services to the Pakistani prisoners abroad.

Discussing the performance of the special courts established to facilitate the Pakistani abroad, the Ministry informed the committee that Punjab has promulgated the relevant legislation.

However, Senator Shahadat Awan said that, although the law was approved in 2024, data on the number of cases processed in Punjab or in any other province have not yet been provided.
