- Slate Auto backed by Amazon arrives out of nowhere with a tempting product
- The ultra simple truck is designed for daily use
- The expected EV range is up to 240 miles
Apparently from nowhere, a new EV company backed by Amazon has arrived at the scene, offering an ultra simple and low -price electric truck for the North American market.
With Jeff Bezos de Amazon’s funds, Slate Auto proposes a basic and highly configurable truck that covers the trend of a gigantic footprint and massive space masses, for a compact and highly configurable shell that is built for hard work.
Dimensioning more as a classic Toyota or Nissan truck from the early 1980s, slate collection has easy to wrap composite panels that are refreshingly free of chrome and other decorative touches.
On the other hand, Slate says that it has made the panels the easiest one to wrap and sell personalized stickers and wraps kits for only $ 500, there are no expensive metal paint options here.
In addition to this, Slate points to a base price of $ 27,000 (around £ 20,000 / au $ 42,000), which could see some trucks sold for only $ 20,000 or less, depending on local incentives and tax exemptions.
The two retro -style seat truck comes with a 1047 -liter load bay that is an easy height for the loading and transport equipment, while the rear can be converted to a five -seat SUV with the appropriate kit and the rear a tonlon cover, sold by blackboard.
In terms of energy, this is handled by a single engine that is mounted on the rear axle. Until now, Slate has said that the option of a 52.7kWh battery or a larger 84.3kWh battery will be on the table, which are mounted under the floor to obtain a maximum load space and an inner room.
The truck will have a relatively restricted pair (for an EV, anyway) of 201BHP and 195 pounds of ft torque of Barril, with the time of sprint 0-60 mph fixed in eight second seconds. The maximum speed is only 90 mph.
There is a considerable ‘Frunk’ in the front, which is large enough for a pair of hand suitcases, while the interior is deliberately basic: there is a telephone or tablet goalkeeper and the option to add accessories that are inside the glove compartment.
Analysis: The first practical electrical training in the world?
Instead of trying to compete with Cybertruck by Elon Musk, Slate has deliberately adopted the opposite polar approach, keeping the things cheap and simple, offering a good fashionable truck that masses can buy and worked hard.
While the body’s style can now be a lifestyle choice, there are still large extensions of North America (and beyond) that require a truck for daily use, either to work or simply transport many lifestyle accessories.
Okay, you will not have the loading or trailer capacity of some of the largest trucks that exist. But Slate’s offer looks very good and promoted to be comfortable and, above all, very simple.
The interior is elegant enough not to be completely utilitarian, but it is also refreshing devoid of massive screens and soft surfaces that chew with daily hard use.
It comes standard with the basic cruise control, the central block and a USB load point, because everyone has a smartphone or tablet, right? So let the devices in our pockets assume information and entertainment tasks.
However, the company has ensured that it has the right things of EV, namely, a decent battery and a usable daily range, as well as a fast charge that, according to him, will see that a 10-80% recharge takes only 30 minutes.
Although Slate apparently comes out of nowhere, offers me many boxes for me. It is all that is not the Tesla Cybertruck.
Small, discreet, carefully style, practical, well considered and well within the reach of the budget of most people. The EV company based in Michigan will begin the production of its utilitarian truck next year and I would not be surprised if it is a great success.
