- SNK has been criticized for its use of generative AI
- The Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves season 2 trailer contains several short AI-generated scenes.
- Season 2 will also feature the “most prized fighting game tournament”
Developer SNK has found itself in trouble after releasing a trailer for Fatal Fury: City of Wolves next Characters from the second season.
The trailer, which you can see here, appears to make liberal use of generative AI technology. Well, it doesn’t just “seem” as almost all the telltale signs are there. From the overcorrection of the light source and the strange expressions, to the abjectly incorrect character details and that overly “bright” look, it’s a pretty open and shut case.

Fans of the game have taken to social media to express their displeasure at SNK’s decision to use generative AI technologies.
“Imagine bragging in your trailer that you have the most money of any tournament, while refusing to pay animators to make your trailer,” posted one Bluesky user.
Another, who was moderator of the official meeting. city of wolves The Discord server announced that they were stepping down in the wake of the controversy.
The trailer indicates that Season 2 will run alongside the “most prized fighting game tournament” and begins on January 22, 2026. The game is also part of the main roster of fighting games at this year’s EVO championship.
What’s also alarming in my opinion is that Season 2 characters are released monthly, as confirmed by SNK.
There will be one per month from January to June, which adds up to a total of six characters. Four of them have been revealed as Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, and Wolfgang Krauser, all fan favorites. The latter two remain a mystery, although it has been suggested that one could be Fist of the North Star protagonist Kenshiro.
I find this alarming because once a month is a surprisingly fast cadence in the modern fighting game space. Typically, games like Tekken 8, street fighter 6, and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising It will add DLC characters approximately once every three to four months.
The relatively rapid pace that SNK is implementing here leaves nothing (so far) for the second half of the year, and could be a sign that the team is wrapping up development. City of Wolves. I’m also a little worried that such a rushed schedule could lead to balance issues or unwanted character behaviors, but the jury is out for now.
