Heavy rains, hail and snow mistreated parts of the north of the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for the third consecutive day, causing sudden floods and landslides that interrupted everyday life and left several blocked key roads, local officials said on Thursday.
The downpours caused overflowed streams and rivers in Lower Dir, sending water running to stores and homes. The weather system, which brought thunder, hail storms and snowfall intermittent to mountainous areas, has intensified the cold throughout the region.
The areas of the upper mountain, including the Kumrat Valley, the Lowari tunnel, Shahi Bin Shahi, Kalpani, Asherai Dara and Jahaz Banda experienced continuous snowfall, authorities said.
In the plains, the hail of the wheat fields and the orchards of severely damaged fruits, which raises concerns for local farmers just before the harvest season.
It was also reported that the Panjkora River was at a low flood level, while water entered commercial areas in parts of the Dir district.
In the upper part of Chitral, heavy earth landslides and swollen currents cut access along the Booni-Mastuj highway into several points, including Reshun, Zait, Kari, Istaro and Reach. Local authorities confirmed that vehicles were stranded in some places.
With the EID approach, travelers who postpone non -essential trips have been advised due to the risk of higher slides and road closures.
“The situation in the upper reach is fragile. We urge people to have caution,” said a traffic official of the district to Express News.
Access to affected areas is still difficult, and emergency services continue to face challenges that reach remote locations due to blocked routes.
