Snowfall in the upper regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has intensified the winter cold, with temperatures dropping to sub-zero levels in some areas.
The first snowfall of the season is underway in several of the northern areas of the province, while cloudy skies have blanketed the provincial capital Peshawar, Express News reported.
In the affected areas, including the Tirah Valley and Chitral, the snow has caused major transportation disruptions.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is working to clear blocked roads and restore access. The temperature in these regions has fallen below freezing, creating challenges for both local communities and travelers.
Meanwhile, in Peshawar, although the city is experiencing a cold morning with a recorded temperature of 5°C, the chances of rain remain minimal. The meteorological department has indicated that the city is likely to experience cloudy skies throughout the day.
Despite these challenges, tourism activity in accessible areas continues, as people venture into the picturesque snow-covered valleys. Authorities recommend caution on the roads due to the slippery condition.
Earlier yesterday, heavy snowfall in Tirah Valley, Chitral and surrounding areas blanketed the region, transforming it into a picturesque winter wonderland.
In the Tirah Valley, the trees, houses and mountains were covered in a thick white layer of snow, enhancing the natural beauty.
However, locals had to deal with disruptions, including roadblocks and increasing cold, which affected daily routines.
Chitral and its adjoining areas, including Kalash, Garam Chashma, Sheshi Koh and Golen valleys, received 6 to 8 inches of snow. Chitral city reported 4 inches, while Ayun saw 2 inches of accumulation.
In the Lowari tunnel area, snowfall reached one foot in height and road clearing operations are underway. Despite difficult conditions, passenger vehicles from Peshawar and Islamabad successfully reached Chitral.
Upper Chitral regions such as Yarkhun, Khot, Reech and Phasti experienced heavier snowfall, affecting inter-district travel and creating difficulties for employees commuting to work.
