Solana Layer 2 Sonic Airdrops SONIC token to TikTok users

Sonic, the Solana-based gaming-focused Layer 2 blockchain, will launch its SONIC token to all of its onboarded users via social media platform TikTok.

Sonic created its SonicX game natively within TikTok, attempting to replicate the success of the mini apps that were created on the TON blockchain within the Telegram messaging platform.

The game has over 2 million onboarded users using TikTok, which Sonic attributed to the app’s seamless experience and reach in an emailed announcement that did not provide further details about the token launch.

Blockchain-based games have often suffered from a clunky experience that has made it difficult to retain users. By working through Web2 applications like Telegram or Tiktok, developers can use existing procedures to onboard and create a simple user experience.

TikTok has 1 billion monthly active users. The number is expected to rise to more than 2.3 billion by 2029, according to Shopify.
