Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the headquarters of Punjab Transport Company and Electric Vehicle Command and Control Centre.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also saw an automatic washing facility for electric buses. He was informed that the plant recycles water for reuse. The prime minister inspected the charging station where Yutong’s 160-kilowatt system can fully charge an electric bus in 105 minutes.
He visited the Command and Control Center and requested a schedule for the incorporation of 1,500 new buses.

He ordered that the bus charging system be switched to solar energy as soon as possible and instructed officials to identify new routes for eco-friendly electric buses. He also ordered to improve the arrangements in view of the increasing number of passengers and additional buses in places where commuters face long waiting times.
He ordered that carbon credits be claimed under the Green Bus Project. He also praised the dedication shown by the electric bus crews in helping people with special medications. He said the launch of green buses had set passenger records across Punjab. The prime minister said the government wanted to launch metro bus projects in Faisalabad and Gujranwala as soon as possible.
He added that electric buses provide the public with a comfortable means of travel. He said that the Punjab government is giving top priority to the comfort and safety of citizens, especially women and children.
He said smart travel systems offer faster and easier commutes, while electric buses are helping to reduce pollution and smog. “Our top priority is to provide clean, safe and modern public transport to the people of Punjab,” he said.
Punjab Transport Company CEO Kausar Khan said more than 15.5 million passengers had traveled in electric buses across Punjab so far. More than 3.8 million women and more than 1.5 million students have benefited from free trips, in addition to 750,000 elderly people and 300,000 special people.
The Punjab Transport Company has launched an initiative under which special shops have been set up at e-bus stations to provide widows and divorcees with business opportunities. So far, 10 women have been provided sweet shops at new bus stops in Lahore.
