Some older Garmin watches are experiencing some burned problems on their screens, leaving an mark on the screen that does not disappear. This is happening in some of the best Garmin watches, such as the Garmin Fenix and Epix series.
First seen through Notebookck, the Garmin Epix Gen 2 and Garmin Fenix 6 Pro could show signs of OLED. Here is why it happens.
Garmin’s screens can be affected by the burned
Oled Burn-in in Epix Gen 2 of R/Garmin
As you can see in the image in Reddit’s thread above, the burned has left an epix gen 2, as if it has two screens in one, with data that is supposed to be on the screen are clearly legible.
The user in question indicated that they change between Garmin Epix and an Apple Watch, and the latter is used from Monday to Friday. That would suggest that, while “on the dock,” the Garmin constantly shows system information while charging, increasing the chances of burning Oled.
The burned is particularly probable in a smart watch that sits on a loading dock, because the devices often do not cool their information as regularly as, for example, a phone or tablet, or even a television. That means that system information, such as battery life, is likely to be burned.
Even so, it is not just the OLED panels that seem to suffer burns. Another Reddit thread has suggested that a MIP screen (pixel memory) in a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro could be suffering the same destination.
The screenshot clearly shows two layers of information on the screen, with the traditional dials of a Garmin clock that appears under the layer where a user is selecting their training.
A commentator suggested that the Mip Burn-in could be reversible since it is caused by a load imbalance caused by static, so if you see signs of this, consider changing the modes or turning off the device for a while. Other users in the comments report that Fenix 7 and Venu 2 also the AMOLED burns.
For more general prevention, I could consider deactivating the always active functionality of your device. In doing so, not only minimizes the amount of time that the elements are on the screen, but also helps to prolong the battery life (although Garmin devices are not far behind in that sense).
