The company shared the news in a new PlayStation Blog post, describing the initiative as a “unique opportunity for the biggest PlayStation fans to enter some of the biggest gaming worlds by scanning their image and appearing inside a PlayStation game.”
“For more than 30 years, we have continued to look for ways to celebrate our gaming community, which plays a vital role in the history and future of PlayStation. Today, we are excited to offer the opportunity to bring some of our devoted PlayStation fans even closer to the PlayStation experience,” said Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The player base will start with Gran Turismo 7but it will eventually expand and include fans in additional PlayStation Studios titles “in the near future,” which could mean other games being included in iconic franchises like god of war, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizonand more.
The show will be available in the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia, and fans can visit The Playerbase’s official website starting today to get started.
Players will need to log in with a PlayStation Account ID and answer a series of questions to proceed with their application.
“After reviewing applications, we will select a limited number of finalists to participate in video interviews to learn more about them and their connection to PlayStation,” Tomatis explained. “From there, a PlayStation fan will be selected to appear on Gran Turismo 7 as part of The Playerbase, where they will have a limited-time guest appearance as an in-game character portrait, similar to how characters are presented throughout the game.”
The selected fan will also visit a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a day of scanning and collaborate with a designer to create a custom fantasy logo and unique vehicle livery, which will be added to the Showcase menu permanently.
“Over time, we hope to expand The Playerbase as more PlayStation Studios become involved, introducing fans in ways that fit the style and world of each game,” Tomatis said.
“Playerbase is our way of saying thank you to the players who make PlayStation what it is today. We can’t wait to meet the fans who will enter the world of PlayStation in a whole new way.”
