Sophie Cunningham said last week that she probably wouldn’t watch any of the WNBA Finals to distance herself from the “toxicity” of the league last season. On Tuesday, the Indiana Fever The guard confirmed that he had not seen the first two games of the series.

Cunningham was surprised to learn that the Las Vegas Aces had taken a 2-0 lead over his former team, the Phoenix Mercury, when talking about the Finals during the latest episode of his podcast. “Show me something.”

“Hell no. I haven’t seen a single lick of the WNBA. I don’t know what’s going on. I talked to my teammates the day we got out of interviews and everything. I need a cleaning. “I’m booking a vacation,” he said.

“I really need a break. Good luck to whoever wins. Honestly, I don’t care who wins this final. And I don’t care. I’ll stay quiet. I’ll stop.”

Last week, Cunningham indicated she probably wouldn’t watch the Finals, citing the “drama-filled” season she and her Fever castmates had to endure.

“I don’t even know if I’m going to watch it. I’m over it. I need a break from the toxicity of the WNBA. It’s been a drama-filled season for multiple reasons,” she said. “I’m exhausted.”

FEVER STAR SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM CONTINUES TO CONDEMN WNBA COMMISSIONER: ‘CATHY, NO ONE CARES’

In addition to the number of injuries that plagued the Fever, including Cunningham’s own season-ending injury, the veteran guard was among several WNBA players who publicly criticized the league and Commissioner Cathy Engelbert over concerns about arbitration and ongoing collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations.

“I’m just tired of our league. They need to step up and be better. Our leadership from top to bottom needs to be held accountable. I think there are a lot of people in positions of power in the WNBA, who could be really great businessmen, but they don’t know shit about basketball. And that has to change,” Cunningham said during her exit interview last week.

“I think it’s pretty embarrassing that he always talks about her, Cathy, when it shouldn’t have anything to do with her,” he added of Engelbert.

Despite his disappointment with league leadership and officiating last season, Cunningham spoke highly of his first season in Indiana.

“Our locker room was so close, so fun, and so full of love, like I’ve never been a part of a locker room like that, and it was amazing. It was also a hell of a season because of the injuries, but through it all, I’m grateful. I think the relationship and the memories this team created will be one of a lifetime.”
