Sophie Kinsella, author of ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’, dies at 55

Sophie Kinsella, the international bestselling author best known for her Confessions of a shopaholic series, has died at the age of 55.

The mother of five fought cancer (glioblastoma) for three years.

Her family confirmed that she died peacefully, surrounded by her husband and five children.

The obituary posted on their Instagram account read: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy).”

“He died peacefully, with his final days filled with his true loves: family, music, warmth, Christmas and joy.”

The statement continued: “We cannot imagine what life will be like without his radiance and love of life.”

“Despite her illness, which she endured with unimaginable courage, Sophie considered herself truly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends and to have had the extraordinary success of her writing career.”

“She took nothing for granted and was eternally grateful for the love she received. We will miss her so much that our hearts break,” the emotional note concludes.

Born Madeleine Sophie Wickham, Kinsella’s fame was her Shopaholic novels.
