- Vado SL 2 has just launched
- It is the last electric power bicycle specialized
- It has a 520W battery and up to five hours of time
Specialized today has presented the new alloy version of its Electronic Bicycle Vado SL 2, which according to the company offers an unprecedented combination of power, speed and range in its class of weight.
Recently we reviewed the exceptional Vado SL 2 Carbon and we loved its excellent power, quiet trip and soft handling. However, it costs $ 6,500 USD, £ 5,500 in the United Kingdom / $ 900 Aus, a striking amount even for the best electronic bicycles in the market.
Fortunately, Specialized Now offers an alloy version of Vado SL 2 at a slightly more appealing price of £ 3,500/£ 3,800, with the US price and aus to be confirmed. That will give you the new alloy of Vado SL 2 4.0 or 5.0 respectively. So what do you get in the 4.0 and 5.0 models on the most expensive carbon option?
Vado SL 2 specialized alloy: paper
The new 5.0 and 4.0 models are an ultralight version of carbon 6.0 mentioned above. They are very similar in specifications (hence the proximity in the price). Both are available in equipped or passing configurations. Both are powered by specialized SL 1.2 engine, which generates 50 nm of power and is good for 25 kmh. Both have an integrated 520WH battery classified by up to five hours of travel time (despite electronic bicycle range warnings), and both present the Mastermind H3 with the Handlescar remote control.
The 4.0 and 5.0 have aluminum and fork frame designs, as well as future shock 3.1 suspension. They also come with the same tires and wheels, and the same lateral and rear settings to transport luggage.
The 5.0 presents Tektro TKD-148 brakes, unlike Tektro HD-R285 brakes in 4.0. The 4.0 only has 10 speed gear versus 11 speed in 5.0, and the 5.0 lights are also slightly better.
The great lack of the most expensive carbon version is obviously the carbon frame. The engine is not so good, and the suspension and brakes are also improved in the carbon model that we have already checked.
4.0 and 5.0 do not present a removable battery, as are the carbon model, which can be a detour for some. Otherwise, this seems Specialized’s best option for those who do not want to pay in their very expensive carbon model.
