Spike Lee was sitting courtside at the Intuit Dome in Southern California for the NBA All-Star Game, but it was his outfit that caught the eye during the event.

Lee sported a pro-Palestinian look at the festivities in Inglewood, California, as the league showcased its new format, which featured the World All-Stars and US All-Stars in Team Stars and Team Stripes.

The World All-Stars featured Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija. It was the first time that a player born in Israel participated in an All-Star Game. Avdija wore the Israeli flag on the back of his jersey during the match.

Lee didn’t make any additional statements, but her outfit was enough of a statement.

“I feel like when I come to play, I come with the whole nation, and it’s fun to show that it’s possible, even for a small country like us,” he said after the game, via the Times of Israel.

While the political issues didn’t seem to seep into the game, Houston Rockets star Alperen Sengun was asked on Saturday about his relationship with Avdija. Sengun is Turkish and the relationship between the two countries is far from strong.

“You know, I think that’s a lot bigger than ours. We’re just going to represent our country, here, you know, to the best of our ability. Deni is the same worker,” Sengun told reporters. “You know, great guy, great person. One of my good friends in this league.

“And like I said, those things are a lot bigger than ours. We’re just here doing what we love, and other things are out of our control. And hopefully, you know, of course, basketball is the thing that hopefully brings everyone love and staying together, you know, that’s what we’re here for. And like I said, the other things are out of our control, and hopefully, you know, everything has come to peace around the world, and that’s all we wanted.”

Avdija played 15 minutes in total between the two games the World All-Stars played in the new format. The World All-Stars lost both games.
