Spotify’s Premium Family plan just got a big update for parents, and it could save your Spotify Wrapped too

  • Spotify is expanding managed accounts for its Premium Family plan after a successful pilot
  • Parent account administrators will be able to enable controls for younger listeners, including explicit content filters and specific song restrictions.
  • It also adds an extra layer of protection to your individual Spotify Wrapped results.

Spotify is making changes to its Premium Family plan and expanding managed accounts (the music streaming service’s Premium accounts for younger listeners) to seven new locations, including the US, UK and Australia.

Managed accounts launched in three regions last year and later expanded to seven more. Following that successful pilot, Spotify is now bringing it to seven more new territories: US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and Netherlands.

Although managed accounts have only been part of Spotify’s subscription ecosystem for a year, they have become a highly requested feature, hence the company’s decision to roll them out more widely.

One of Spotify’s goals is to give listeners ages 13 and younger space to explore their own musical tastes and listen to their favorite artists with parental controls. They can also take advantage of other popular features, such as playlist creation, daily playlist, and the revamped Discover Weekly, just like any standard Spotify subscriber. However, the interactivity features will have some restrictions. For example, Spotify Messages is age-restricted.
