Square Bitcoin Pilot Pilots (BTC) payments in Vegas, plans full availability for customers in 2026

Jack Dorsy’s Square has taken Bitcoin

Payments one step further at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas this week.

For three days, the company is testing a program in which attendees can make purchases with their bitcoin scanning a barcode. Payments are resolved in real time through the lighting network, while Square manages the exchange rate calculations in real time and confirmation notifications, according to a press release.

Square hopes to make the function available to a broader audience at the end of this year and for all customers by 2026, waiting for regulatory approval.

“We believe in an open money system, decentralized, fair, fast and low cost for all, and that is exactly what we want to bring to square sellers,” said Miles Suter, leader of the Bitcoin product in Block (XYZ), the Square’s parent company.
