Supreme Court Justice Athar Minallah noted on Friday that “the state focuses on overthrowing and bringing in governments,” and all institutions target political opponents.

The SC senior judge made these remarks while hearing the bail plea of the murder suspect. A three-member bench, headed by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, heard the murder case.

During the hearing, the high court ordered immediate arrest of murder suspect Ishaq and directed the SP High Court to hand him over to jail authorities after his bail plea was rejected.

Justice Athar Minallah commented that the case had been pending in the apex court since 2017 as the state focuses on overthrowing and bringing in governments, and the institutions mainly target political opponents.

Justice Jamal Mandokhel also commented on the situation in the state, mentioning that three prime ministers had been assassinated, but there is no clarity on the status of their cases. He also highlighted that even senior judges in Balochistan had been killed without any follow-up.

Justice Athar Minallah added that as long as state institutions remain engaged in political engineering, the country will continue to face such challenges.

Justice Athar Minallah further criticized the failure to take responsibility for the assassination of a prime minister, stating that it took forty years for the crime to be recognized and calling the lack of accountability a major injustice.

Justice Jamal Mandokhel observed that public confidence in institutions was declining and people now expected the Supreme Court to deal with all matters.
