ISLAMABAD:
Lawyer leaders on Friday filed a petition with the Supreme Court to nullify the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
The petitioners, Hamid Khan, Amanullah Kunrani, Abid Hasan Manto, Ali Ahmed Kurd, Akram Sheikh, Qazi Muhammad Anwar, Munir A Malik and Abid Zuberi, filed the petition through their lawyers, Sardar Latif Khosa and Barrister Salah Uddin.
The petitioners asked the high court to stay all actions taken under the 26th Amendment until the conclusion of the case. They argued that the 26th Amendment contrasted with the independence of the judiciary and also against the principle of devolution of power.
