Let’s make one thing clear: I have to admit that I think I’ve become desensitized to horror entertainment over the years, as there are hardly any horror movies or even the best horror games that really tend to bother me. However, I’d be lying if I said there weren’t a handful of games, both old and new, that capture horror at their best and are enough to keep you and me up at night.
Several of my top horror game picks are available at the fourth Steam Scream Fest, giving you discounts and demos to enjoy between October 27 and November 3, giving you all the scares you need for the spooky season this Halloween.
Foreigner: Isolation
I’ve played a lot of horror games and few have had me on the edge of my seat like Foreigner: Isolation has. It’s a truly scary and anxiety-inducing experience, and it features a stalker element similar to what you’d find in a Resident Evil game, which takes it up a notch.
Usually when you think you’re safe, the alien’s presence will make you think twice as you casually stroll through the rooms. This is a game I haven’t finished yet (I promise I haven’t finished it). that scared… ahem), but with the Scream Fest sale, you can join me in being terrified for just $9.99 / £8.74 / AU$14.98 – that’s a whopping 75% off the beloved horror title.
Outlast Franchise Package
I could easily recommend the first one. Survive title alone, and that would be enough to give many of you nightmares, considering how terrifying its content is. However, the same applies to its sequel, along with the more recent multiplayer mode. Survive the testsall of which takes survival horror to great heights.
If you’re a big fan of a horror game that leaves you completely helpless and on the run from enemies who can literally (I’m not mincing my words) rip your playable character’s limbs off (grim, I know), then the Survive The franchise is your best option. The first entry is easily my favorite, while Survive 2 It takes the disturbing nature of its predecessor to the extreme, but what’s to say you won’t like it?
He Outlast Franchise Package is available for $22.35 / £18.81 / AU$32.80, a whopping 72% off its original price of $79.95.
Dying Light Collection
Although the latest title in the franchise, Dying Light: The Beast, is flying high with widespread positive comments about the beloved character, Kyle Crane, don’t let that distract you from dying light and Dying Light 2 Stay Human. Both games are a real blast to play this Halloween, with an excellent balance between scary moments at night and intense, fast-paced action during the day.
Techland has managed to produce some of the best zombie games you can find, with stories to get lost in and scares to enjoy. The collection is available for $44.71 / £36.39 / AU$67.09, a 50% discount on the original price.
dead island 2
Although it may not always scare you, dead island 2 It’s one of the most realistic horror games you can find, with physics and zombie dismemberment and gore that I haven’t seen many other games capture before. The developers at Dambuster Studios did a great job of keeping the gameplay loop enjoyable, whether you choose to play solo or co-op, and there are plenty of fun scares to be had.
It can be found for $14.99 / £11.99 / AU$22.48, and you can take the zombie-killing fun a step further with a host of DLC to choose from, through game expansions and cosmetics.
The Walking Dead: The Ultimate Revealing Series
Saving the best for last is none other than The Walking Dead: The Ultimate Revealing Series. This is literally one of the best horror decision-making games I’ve ever played, with excellent storytelling across numerous seasons.
It has some of the best twists and turns that will leave you heartbroken or jumping for joy with a punch, and although I stopped playing it after its second season (due to some story conclusions I didn’t like), it’s one you won’t want to miss for even a second. In fact, I’ll try it again in the spirit of Steam Scream Fest.
The entire series is available for just $4.99 / £4.19 / AU$7.35, a whopping 90% off, making it one of the easiest purchases you can make in time for Halloween. The offer ends November 3, so don’t miss out!
