Only a couple of years have passed since Arch Manning It could be said that it was the most wanted high school recruit in the nation. It was decided by Austin, home of the Texas Longhorns.

When Quinn Eweers was selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, he opened the door for Manning to become the seafood of Texas headline.

While Manning showed flashes during his limited game time in the last two seasons, former University Soccer Coach Steve Spurrier does not seem ready to buy the hype that surrounds the young quarterback.

Spurrier, who trained the Florida Gators for a national championship in 1996, questioned why Lonchorns Steve Sarkisian chose to start Ewers on Manning in the last two seasons considering Manning’s much discussed potential.

“Most people are choosing Texas to win the SEC in football,” Spurrier said during a recent appearance in the podcast “Another Dooley scored.” “They have Arch Manning already winning the Heisman too. My question is that if he was so good, how do they let Quinn Eweers play all the time last year? It was a selection of seventh round?

“You just have to ask coach Sark how you played that instead of this,” Spurrier continued. “Hopefully, he will say: ‘Because we thought it was better than that.’ Isn’t that why you play one boy and not the other?

During Manning’s time at the bank, he faced questions about whether he would leave Texas for another program that would give him the opportunity to play immediately.

“It was difficult. I mean, it is difficult in this era,” said Manning, 19, when he spoke with the media in April about waiting for his turn, according to Atlético. “Sometimes it is worth waiting.”

Manning doubled his commitment to the Longhorns and said he hopes to remain in Austin in the predictable future.

“But I hope it is worth it. There is no other place that wants to be,” said Manning. “I want to be in Texas. I have friends here. I love this place. So, I want to be the field marshal of the University of Texas.”

Manning appeared in 10 games last season, including two that began instead of an injured Ewers. The 2024 season ended with 939 air yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Manning also showed his athletics, running for 108 yards and four touchdowns.
