Islamabad:
Eighteen members of the National Assembly (MNA), recently reinstated to reserved seats, are now waiting for the release of their accumulated salaries during their one -year suspension.
The Secretariat of the National Assembly faces uncertainty about whether restored legislators have the right to receive salaries for the period in which they were de-notified.
The Secretariat has sought advice from the Department of Finance on the matter, and a final decision is expected during the current NA session after the approval of the speaker.
As of January 2025, the monthly salary for a MNA is RS730,000. If pending payments are approved, each of the 18 MNA is expected to receive around RS7.1 million in arrears.
The total disbursement required for the 18 legislators amounts to approximately RS127.8 million. It is worth noting that these members were unstarted on May 13, 2024, after a ruling of the Supreme Court.
However, the Apex court revoked its decision on July 2, 2025 and restored the 18 legislators. Among those restored are 15 women and three minority representatives.
