- StubHub’s New ChatGPT App Lets Users Find Event Tickets in Real Time Through a Simple Conversation
- You can search, refine and compare seats entirely within a chat
- The transaction is completed on the StubHub website.
StubHub is the latest addition to the third-party apps available through ChatGPT. You can find seats for a concert, play, or sport directly within ChatGPT, selected from the many millions in StubHub’s inventory. Listings are curated in real time, but displayed as part of the conversation. You can view seating, price and date information.
You just have to activate StubHub in the Apps section of ChatGPT and click connect. Then, simply start a conversation from the app page or by starting a message with “@StubHub.” Then, simply describe the type of show you want to watch and any other elements you want considered, such as dates, and the chatbot will show you what’s available.
For example, I asked “@StubHub when will the Yankees play at home again” and saw a helpful calendar of dates, who they will play, and what tickets are offered.
ChatGPT offered to further refine my options through weekend games, pricing, or games against specific teams. I chose the Marlins, but the tickets were more expensive because it was Opening Day, I told ChatGPT to “show me something cheaper” and the AI kept the context of my request in mind, presenting the Astros game cheaper by almost $100 later in the summer.
You can also start with a very vague question. Ask “any good comedy shows in New York this week for under $100?” and the StubHub application interprets your intention, analyzes the relevant listings and returns you some ideas that fit the assignment. Once you know which tickets you want, select your choice and you will be redirected to the StubHub site to purchase them.
ChatGPT’s golden ticket
That is the only element that interrupts the smooth progression of obtaining tickets. It’s a little disconcerting to have to switch to a new website and not make the purchase through ChatGPT. But, as I discovered when purchasing tickets, by the time you get to the point of being sent to StubHub, you’ve already made all the decisions. It’s just a matter of sending your payment.
StubHub is one of the first ticketing companies to connect to ChatGPT in this way, but the appeal is obvious. You don’t have to fuss with filters and multiple tabs, just regular descriptions of what you want to see and what kind of seats you want. Replace checkboxes and sliders with one or two messages.
I tried a few experiments comparing trying to get StubHub tickets through ChatGPT versus just the website, and each time, ChatGPT was faster. The gap was widest when I started with the more abstract “Find me something fun to do nearby this weekend,” and it almost disappeared when I had a very specific show in mind and a seat choice to purchase.
StubHub is not alone among third-party ChatGPT apps that involve purchases, but it represents a major market that OpenAI would probably love to open up through ChatGPT. Personally, I find it very useful when it comes to locating harder to reach seats without having to do a lot of searching in different tabs.
