Torrential rains and sudden floods in the last two days have left at least 18 dead people and several other missing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, which caused emergency responses and warnings of more rain to come.

According to the Declaration of the Provincial Disaster Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday, 13 deaths have been reported so far in KP due to rain -related incidents in the last 48 hours.

Among the deceased there are nine children, three women and one man. Three others, including two children and one woman, have suffered injuries.

The PDMA preliminary damage report revealed that 19 houses were affected throughout the province, with 17 partially damaged and two completely destroyed.

The incidents were reported in the districts of Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Upper Kohistan, Mardan, Kurram, Haripur, Mansehra, Chitral Superior, Malakand and Shangla.

Swat emerged as the worst district beaten in the last 48 hours, with sudden floods and the collapse of a house that claims the life of six children and a woman, while another woman and child suffered injuries.

In Buner, three deaths were reported in intense rains accompanied by thunder and rays.

A woman and her son lost their lives after being hit by lightning, while an eight -year -old boy was swept during the downpour. “The body has been recovered by the locals,” confirmed the PDMA.

The heavy rains in Bajaur led to another tragedy, where two brothers, 21 and five years old, lost their lives. “His mother was successfully rescued while the bodies of both brothers were recovered,” said Baja’s deputy commissioner’s office cited.

In other places, a woman died in Alto Kohistan and a child was injured in Torghar after the roof of a house collapsed due to persistent rain.

Meanwhile, the situation is equally serious in GB, since sudden floods in the Babusar region continue to cause generalized devastation, with 10 to 15 people dressed and still missing.

The GB government has urged tourists to immediately postpone travel plans to the region.

Speaking on a television program, the GB government spokesman Faizullah Faraq confirmed that massive damage had occurred due to persistent rains and floods. He said that all tourists stranded on the Babusar route had been successfully rescued and were provided free accommodation in coordination with local hotels and administration owners.

All the routes to Naran and Kaghan remain closed, while the Karakoram highway has been blocked at two main points, leaving thousands of stranded travelers. The silk route is open for small vehicles, and restoration work even Bisham is running at full pace.

Faraq appealed to citizens to refrain from traveling to GB until the situation stabilizes. He added that the GB main minister will visit the worst hit areas, including Babusar, to assess the damage and supervise relief measures.

In Diamer, the authorities have declared an emergency after five people lost their lives due to floods.

Previously, multiple tourists were dragged to Babusar Top, and rescue operations are still underway.

In addition, the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) issued a warning for the rainy wind/thrige throughout the country on Wednesday, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy falls in several regions, which causes concerns about flash floods, urban floods and landslides.
