Kirkpatrick appeared on NBC’s “Today” show and gave some thoughts on safety.

“We’re going to have absolutely hundreds of officers and personnel lining our streets,” Kirkpatrick said, mentioning Bourbon Street as one of the places where security will be increased.

“We are hiring at the same level, if not higher, than we were prepared for for the Super Bowl.”

Super Bowl LIX will take place in February at the Caesars Superdome, the same site where the Sugar Bowl will begin.

The Superdome also hosted the Super Bowl which took place after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Police officers and snipers were seen atop high-rise buildings and in the Superdome itself.

Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said Wednesday that “public safety is paramount.”

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said he was going to be at the Sugar Bowl in a message to fans who were on the fence about going.

“I tell you one thing: Your governor will be there,” Landry said. “That’s proof, believe me, that that facility and this city are safer today than they were yesterday.”
