Karachi sugar prices have decreased significantly in the last week, with wholesale rates that fall in RS 10 to RS 174 per kilogram.
Retail prices range between RS 180 and RS 185 per kilogram in the city.

However, the situation of sugar in Punjab is more complicated. The province faces an current sugar crisis, caused by disputes between sugar factories, wholesalers and corridors on newly established official prices.
The federal government has established the price of sugar in RS 165 per kilogram for mills and RS 173 for retail sales, but these prices have not been accepted by sugar dealers, who claim that the mills are selling sugar to 176 rupees per kilogram.

As a result, Punjab sugar suppliers have suspended deliveries, which caused the price to increase to 200 rupees per kilogram in some areas.

The dealers have warned that the sugar supply will remain detained unless the factories comply with the official prices established by the Government.
