Sujawal police nab thieves who looted foreign biker couple

SUKKUR: Sujawal police on Friday claimed to have tracked down and arrested the thieves who looted a foreign biker couple, Polish national Kowalczyk Jakub Tomasz and Scantamburlo Marie Elisabeth, in Sindh earlier this week.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sujawal Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, during a press conference at his office, said that by using modern technology and intelligence gathering, the police had arrested the accused Nadim Wiharo and Maqbool.

Pirzada added that a few days ago the suspected criminals intercepted foreign tourists on the Badin bypass in Sujawal and snatched their mobile phones.

In a shameful incident, the foreign couple who arrived in Pakistan after cycling through 10 different countries was attacked by assailants in Thatta district of Sindh, it emerged on Sunday.

The police lodged a first information report (FIR) on behalf of the state and launched investigations into the incident.

However, an official from the Sindh archeology department said Geographic news that the couple, who were visiting historical sites in the province, were assaulted at the Makli cemetery, home to nearly half a million tombs and tombs of royalty, Sufi saints and others.

β€œThe couple stayed at the Makli cemetery last night. [Saturday night] where the assailants robbed them,” confirmed the archeology department assistant. He said that this couple was a guest of the provincial archeology department.

After the incident, the couple left for Hyderabad.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said the incident had brought the country into disrepute and such treatment of guests would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Upon learning about the incident, DIG Hyderabad suspended DIB in-charge Abdul Haq Bidar.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar also took notice of the incident and sought a report from Sujawal’s SSP. The home minister also directed the police to take swift action against the suspects involved in the incident.
