The National Space Agency of Pakistan, the space research commission and the upper atmosphere, has announced national celebrations for the World Space Week (WSW) 2025, the largest annual space event in the world, which will be observed from October 4 to 10 in Pakistan already worldwide.
According to a spokesman, this year’s theme, “Life in Space”, highlights how humanity is preparing to live and work beyond the earth and how space science and technology are shaping the future.
Established by the United Nations in 1999, the World Space Week is celebrated annually to commemorate two historical events: the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik-1, on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the external space treaty on October 10, 1967.
As the National Coordinator of Pakistan of World Space Week since 2005, Supparco has been constantly classified among the main taxpayers worldwide. In 2024, Pakistan headed the global list organizing more than 6,000 activities, which makes it the most active country in WSW celebrations.
By 2025, Supparco has planned a diverse line of programs to inspire students and the public about the wonders of space science.
These include teacher training workshops on the construction and launch of water rockets in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Gilgit; Space Camp 2025, with interactive workshops and contests to design, build and launch model satellites; Space -truck visits to schools in remote areas; educational tours of the Supparco facilities throughout the country; and a series of national competitions such as the best space school, the space ambassadors contest for science and astronomy societies, and multiple public competitions to promote creativity and scientific thinking.
The initiative aims to inspire the youngest generation to follow races in space science, satellite technology, remote sensing, astronomy and related fields, while underlineing the vital role of space research in the improvement of life on earth.
