Swat’s laureate Nobel

The laureate Nobel Malala Yousafzai visited his hometown, Barkana in the Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the first time since he survived an attempt to murder of the Taliban in 2012.

During his visit, Malala met family members and presented respects in her ancestral cemetery. He also visited his uncle, Ramazan, who recently underwent cardiac surgery in Islamabad.

The Karora Station Station officer (Sho) Amjad Alam Khan confirmed that Malala arrived in Barkana by helicopter, accompanied by her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, and her husband, Aser Malik, with whom she married in 2021.

Malala also visited the school and the university that established in 2018 to provide free education to almost 1,000 girls in the district, which did not previously had a university of operational government girls.

“Malala met the students, inspected classes and spoke to them as she urged them to study and make their future brighter,” said Sho Khan. He added that the Malala Fund would continue to ensure high quality education in the institution for free.

During his visit, Malala also stopped at her maternal relative’s house, Faiz Ahmad, where she met with family members.

The educational activist Shehzad Roy, who runs the school and the University of Shangla Girls with Zindagi Trust, was also present on the occasion. He informed Malala about the facilities provided by the University.
