The European Fencing Championship had a controversial protest against the Israel team in Tallin, Estonia, Saturday night.

Members of the Sub-23 Slage team winner of Switzerland’s silver medal turned their backs on Israeli gold medalists during the medal ceremony, while Israel’s national anthem played.

Israeli defeated Switzerland 45–34 to win gold.

After the incident, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned Switzerland for the protest.

Israel’s fencing team has faced previous opponent protests in recent years.

Iraq’s national fencing team retired from a match against Israel in the World Fencing Championship in Istanbul in May 2023.

The FIFA disciplinary committee was asked to investigate the accusations of discrimination against the Israel team and even had to consider a suspension after the Palestinian Football Federation requested it, the PFA. The PFA specifically accused the Israeli Federation IFA to be an accomplice of violations of international law by the Israeli government, discrimination against Arab players and inclusion in their club league located in the Palestinian territory.

FIFA did not suspend Israel, and the IFA then criticized the PFA for accusations in a statement proportionate to Pak Gazette Digital.
