One of the first surprising surprises of the university football season occurred on Friday night, since the School of the Subdivision of the Soccer Championship (FCS) Tarleton State defeated the army, 30-27.
The Texans kicker Brad Larson, won a 37 -yard field goal in the second extra dual time possession to give his school the great victory. It is only the second victory for the state of Tarleton against an FBS opponent.

“Our boys played their hearts,” said Tarleton’s head coach Todd Whitten, through the school’s website. “I don’t have the words to tell you how proud I am from these boys. They are exceptional. Our coaches had a great game plan. It is a great victory for our program.
“We have not played very well against the teams (in FBS) in recent years and (the army) has a good team. 12-2 a year ago. This is an outstanding day for our football program, our university and all those involved.”
The Army won the American Athletic Conference last year and the Independence Bowl.
The black knights suffered an injury in the last moments of regulation.

Campal Mariscal Dewayne Coleman left the game with 57 seconds after a fight. The alternate field marshal, Cale Hellums, took over and took the army to the field goal position, but Dawson Jones lost the attempt of the winning field goal of the game.
Both teams made their first field goal attempts in extra time.
The Texans Campo Marshal, Victor Gabalis, had 16 of 30 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Lewis and Tre Page III ran for a touchdown on the floor. Lewis had 107 yards by land and Page had 89 yards.

Coleman led the army with 100 yards per land and a touchdown by land. He had 129 air yards, but also launched two interceptions.
