Islamabad: In a tragic incident that has once again raised concerns about the security of social networks influencers, a 17-year-old Tiktoker, healthy Yousaf, was shot dead inside his home in the G-13/1 sector of Islamabad on Monday night.
The murder occurred within the jurisdiction of the Sumbal Police Station and has shocked Internet users and rights defenders equally.
According to the reports, Yousaf, who had more than 740,000 followers in Tiktok, was alone with his aunt at the time of the incident.
His father, a government officer, was out of work, while his mother had come to the market. His 15 -year -old is visiting his hometown of Chitral after completing his school exams. The family lived in the upper part of the house where the murder took place.
According to the aunt, the suspect had come to meet Yousaf and the two had a brief exchange before the shooting. The aunt told the Police that he heard her niece say: “Go from here. There are cameras everywhere. I will bring you some water,” moments before the assailant shot him twice on the chest.
Yousaf’s body was transferred to the Pims hospital for a postmortem exam.
A case under section 302 of the Pakistan Criminal Code has been registered by his mother, who declared in the FIR that he could identify the suspect in sight. The initial investigations suggested that the defendant and the victim were known.
In an important development, the Islamabad police arrested the suspect, identified as Umar Hayat, also known for his nickname “Kaka”, in Faisalabad only 20 hours after the crime.
The sources revealed that the arrest was possible through a combination of CCTV images and modern technology, including mobile data analysis.
Hayat, who is 22–23 years old and also a Tiktoker, has confessed the murder. He claimed to be a friend of the victim. The authorities confirmed that Hayat fled to Faisalabad after crime and is currently being transported back to Islamabad for greater investigation.
Police also recovered the homicidal weapon and clothes used by the suspect at the time of crime.
According to the researchers, CCTV images captured Hayat walking slowly after the shooting, apparently writing his phone before putting it into operation. It seems that he used a car to escape Islamabad through the highway.
While the suspect has been arrested and confessed, the reason behind the murder remains under investigation.
This incident adds to a worrying trend that involves creators of female content that is being directed. In Khushab, a Tiktoker was recently killed by his cousin.
Earlier this year, a female influence was found dead at home in Peshawar. In January, a teenager born in the United States was killed by his father in Quetta for his content and lifestyle of Tiktok. Last year, a similar case was reported in Sialkot, where a brother killed his sister for his presence in social networks.
Additional updates are expected as the police continue their investigation and the postmortem report is completed.
