Tennessee’s softball player makes history

A Tennessee softball star advanced in the NCAA record books.

Lady Volunteans launcher, Karlyn Pickens, took the mound on Monday and proceeded to launch the fastest launch in the history of university softball. The historical launch of Pickens occurred in the sixth entry of the Tennessee game against Arkansas.

Its launch registered 78.2 mph.

The previous maximum speed of pickens was 77 mph, which tied it with former Tennessee pitcher, Monica Abbott.

Abbott put the brand during the National Pro Fastpitch 2012 game against Carolina Diamonds. Pickens had already launched two releases this season that reached 77 mph.

Pickens was asked about the special moment after Lady Volunteers’ 3-2 victory over the Lady Razorbacks.

“There were many emotions. At first I was very excited to celebrate that with my team. It is much more great to discover it than to discover at home after the game,” Pickens said through the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Pickens did not give up a blow to its 4.1 entries in the mound. She also struck out six arkansas batters.

“And then it was a bit emotional. All the work we have done as a team of pitchers, all who helped me train, was a really surreal moment. It was really special,” he added.

Pickens obtained the honors of the sec pitcher of the year last season. She has an effectiveness of 0.86 over 89.1 entries.
