Two police stations and a police post in the Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were attacked in a coordinated assault on Friday night, authorities said.

According to reports, unidentified motorcycle assembly militants threw two hand grenades in the Khojri policeman, said Express News.

No victims were reported, while the identity and reasons for the assailants are still clear. Police have launched a search operation and actively investigate the incident.

In response, local residents armed themselves to help the police and announced that the elders in the area would assume an active role in the protection of the position.

Simultaneously, the militants also attacked the Bakakhel and Ghoriwala police stations, causing shooting exchanges between attackers and security forces.

Simultaneous attacks in three different places extended panic throughout the district.

Security forces have launched a search operation to track assailants, and law enforcement agencies have increased security to avoid more attacks.

Local residents have expressed their commitment to cooperate with the police to combat terrorist threats and guarantee peace in the area.

Last week, security forces successfully frustrated a great terrorist attack against Bannu’s cliff in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least six terrorists, according to security sources.

The assault attempt involved the suicide bombers of the Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group, who led two vehicles loaded with explosives to the perimeter of the cliff, causing massive explosions.

Meanwhile, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police inspector (PGI), Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed that suicidal terrorists involved in recent attacks against Darul Ulom Haqqania in Nowshera and Bannu have been identified.

In statements to the media, IGP Hameed declared that investigations on both incidents are ongoing, and CCTV images of both sites have secured for analysis. He added that the bombers were identified by the forensic analysis of their remains.

In addition to identifying the attackers, Hameed revealed that the authorities had tracked the vehicles used in the Bannu attack.

He also revealed that foreign manufacturing weapons were used in the incident, adding that investigations are being carried out to determine the origin of these weapons and how they entered Pakistan. “We are investigating the origin of weapons and how they entered the country,” Hameed said.

The attacks, which left 12 people martyred in Bannu, led the government to provide compensation to the families of the victims. Each family from the martyrs received a control of one million rupees as financial assistance.

In its direction, the PGI also highlighted the security measures that were taken to restore peace in Kurram, a region that has seen an increase in terrorist activity.

Confirmed the arrest of more than 100 suspects involved in disturbing peace. “The terrorist elements have begun to emerge in Kurram’s incidents, and a separate strategy has been designed to address the situation,” said Hameed, expressing the hope that peace in the area will be restored soon.

In addition, the Safe City project has been approved and is expected to be completed in the coming months to improve security throughout the region.
