Bangkok: Thai magnate Anutin Charnvirakul assumed the position of Prime Minister on Sunday, with the conservative who walks through cannabis expelling the dominant political dynasty of the nation and establishing a course for elections at the beginning of next year.
Since the 2023 elections, Thailand’s main office has been monopolized by the Thai Thai party of the Shinatawatra dynasty, a populist force that has been for a long time with the Pro-Monarchy and Pro-Military establishment.
But the heiress of the dynasty, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, was fired last month by court order, and Anutin hastened to rebuild his own coalition government, winning a vote of the Parliament of Friday to close Pheu Thai out of office.
Anutin previously served as Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of Health, but perhaps more famous for being the 2022 cannabis decriminalization architect of Thailand.
The construction tycoon becomes the third leader of the kingdom in two years, and will also serve as the Interior Minister. But he has taken power with the support of the conditional coalition by dissolving the Parliament in four months to celebrate new elections.
“Although we don’t have much time, I hope to receive everyone’s cooperation,” Anutin told journalists after assuming office.
“My government will work tirelessly.” “We will dedicate ourselves to work because we only have four months.”
Its term officially began after the real support of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, read aloud in a formal ceremony at the headquarters of the Bhumjaithai party in Bangkok.
“His Majesty, the king has backed Anutin Charnvirakul to be prime minister from now on,” said the general secretary of the Lower House of Parliament Arath Sukhanunth, reading the Royal Command.
Dinasty in decline
Anutin is also known for administering the COVID-19 response dependent on Thailand tourism and cause a reaction after accusing Westerners of spreading the virus.

Once it was an ally of the Shinawatras, which have been a dominant force in Thai politics since the change of the century, but they are increasingly hesitating after a succession of legal and political setbacks.
Anutin left his coalition with his Pheu Thai party this summer in apparent outrage due to PaetongTran’s behavior during a border row with neighboring Cambodia.
The Constitutional Court of Thailand determined on August 29 that the conduct had violated the ministerial ethics and fired it after only one year in power.
Thaksin Shinawatra, the patriarch of the dynasty, flew out of the kingdom in the hours that are presented on Friday vote of Parliament confirming Anutin, bound for Dubai, where he said he would visit friends and seek medical treatment.
The Supreme Court must rule on Tuesday in a case on the stay of the Thaksin Hospital after its return from exile in August 2023, a decision that could affect the validity of the early release of former prison prison prison last year.
While his fault is not the issue of the case, some analysts say that the verdict could see him imprisoned.
Thaksin on social networks promised to return from Dubai to attend the date of the Court “in person.”
“My colleagues and I have faced legal harassment, but the past is now behind us,” Anutin said Sunday.
“My government will adhere to the law and will not interfere with the justice system, allowing the law to take its course.”
