- AeroPress Steel is the company’s first all-metal coffee maker
- It is vacuum insulated and comes in two colors: stainless and stainless black.
- It’s available now direct from AeroPress for $169.95 (around £130 / AU$240)
There’s a new AeroPress coffee maker in town, with a sturdy metal frame and extra-large brewing capacity. AeroPress Steel is made of corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel (including the body of the brewer, measuring spoon and stirrer), with double-wall insulation to keep your drink warm and prevent the outside of the brewing chamber from heating up.
The AeroPress Steel is also larger than a typical coffee maker, with a 20% larger capacity than the original AeroPress or AeroPress Go. It comes in two color options: Original Stainless and Black Stainless.
The AeroPress is one of my all-time favorite coffee makers for making coffee on the go (it ranks high in my roundup of the best coffee makers for camping). It’s lightweight, takes up little space, and is super easy to use, requiring nothing more than ground coffee, hot water, and a small filter paper (available online and at outdoor stores).
To use your AeroPress, simply place a filter paper in the perforated filter lid, screw it into the brewing chamber, and place it on top of your mug. Add ground coffee and hot water, let it sit, then place the plunger on top and press down firmly.
The feeling of steel
Unlike other portable coffee makers, you don’t need to pump to create pressure and the resulting brew is strong and smooth. You can modify the grind size and brew time to get the optimal flavor from your beans, and AeroPress even sells a hand-cranked grinder with titanium burrs for grinding on the go.
The AeroPress Steel feels reassuringly sturdy and its vacuum-insulated chamber provides better heat retention than other models. It’s even dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning.
That durability doesn’t come cheap, however; AeroPress Steel is on sale now direct from AeroPress for $169.95 (around £130 / AU$240). However, it’s still less than the AeroPress Premium, which is made from a combination of glass, stainless steel and aluminum, and is priced at $199.95 / £169.95 / AU$299.
