The head of Australian rhythm Mitchell Starc said on Thursday that an ankle pain was the main problem that kept him out of the ongoing champions trophy, but “personal views” was also considered in the decision.
The 35 -year -old was a surprise omission of an exhausted Australian squad, also missing the injured attack partners Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, for the 50th tournament in Pakistan and the EAU.
Cricket Australia attributed the absence of STARC to “personal reasons”.
Speaking for the first time since his withdrawal, Starc said that his main concern was the physical condition after experiencing the pain in the ankle during the series of two Australian tests in Sri Lanka this month.
But he admitted that it was not the only factor.
“There are some different reasons, some personal opinions,” Starc said in the Willow Talk podcast, which was organized by his wife, the Captain of Australia, Alyssa Healy.
He did not expand what his “personal views” were around the tournament, which is played under strict security measures.
“I had a little ankle pain through the test series (Sri Lanka),” Starc added.
“So I just need to get it well. Obviously, we have the final (World Test Championship) and a tour of the Western Indies after that.
“There are also some IPL Cricket.
“But the main one in the upper part of my mind is the final of the test. Make my body well, play a Cricket in the coming months and then be ready for the final of the test.”
Starc was the only member of the “Big Thre” Bowling Unit of Australia in playing all the last seven Australian tests against India and Sri Lanka and has an occupied calendar ahead.
He is ready to play for Delhi Capitals at Indian Premier League next month before the WTC final in Lord’s Against South Africa in June, followed by a three -test tour of the Western Indies.
