The head of the Army staff, the Syed Field Marshal Likewise, met Tuesday with senior Iranian military officials in Tehran to discuss the depth of defense cooperation and improve border security mechanisms.
During his visit to the headquarters of the General General Staff, the head of the Army held conversations with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Head of the General Personnel of the Iranian Armed Forces.
Both officials exchanged points of view on the evolving regional security environment and agreed to promote military coordination to military.
The discussions also covered the joint efforts to transform the border shared into a center for commercial and economic activity, and both nations underline the need to promote regional peace and prosperity.
The Army Chief was received with all military honors, including a ceremonial guard of honor for a contingent of the Iranian armed forces.
The Field Marshal also accompanied the Prime Minister of Pakistan during meetings with the supreme leader of Iran Ayatolá Syed Ali Khamenei and President Masoud fishshkian.
The visit is part of an official tour on the way to Türkiye, Iran and Azerbaijan by the High Level Delegation of Pakistan.
Previously, Pakistan’s first lady, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, met an Iranian delegation in the Bilawal House on Monday, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and promote regional cooperation with Tehran.
The visiting delegation was directed by Dr. Reyhaneh Sadat Raeisi, daughter of the late Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi. She was accompanied by senior Iranian officials, including Dr. Vohed Asghari, Chargé d’Affires in the Iranian consulate general; Dr. Saeid Talebi NIA, general director and cultural aggregate in Khana-E-Farhang Iran; and others.
The Pakistani dignitaries, including Senator Salem Mandviwalo and the Minister of Health of Sindh, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, also attended the meeting.
Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in medical care, cultural exchange and diplomatic commitment. The first lady emphasized the historical and cultural ties shared by the two nations and appreciated the long support of Iran to Pakistan.
“We have always valued the unwavering support from Iran,” said Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. “Our countries share a deeply rooted relationship based on mutual respect and shared aspirations.” He also praised Iran’s achievements in medical care, observing compliments consisting of Minister Pechuho after visits to Iranian institutions.
Dr. Raeisi expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s solidarity after his father’s death and transmitted a message of thanks to President Asif Ali Zardari.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Azerbaijan as part of a regional tour of four nations aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties. The visit remains previous in Turkiye and Iran, where the prime minister maintained high level discussions over bilateral cooperation, regional connectivity and mutual development objectives.
The tour will conclude in Tayikistan, where the prime minister is scheduled to attend the International Glacier Conference on May 29-30.
