Founder of Larian Studios and Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Swen Vincke has said Divinity will feature cinematics unlike previous iterations of the series.
Speaking in an interview with IGN after that mind-blowing Divinity Trailer reveal at The Game Awards, Vincke recalled BG3 and shared the key lessons the team has learned since the game’s huge success.
“One of the biggest lessons was the success of the cinematics and how we present the story and the elections,” Vincke revealed. “Obviously, we did a lot of things differently in BG3 that we did it with Divinity: Original Sin 2and I think that game was much better.”
The cinematics did not appear in Divinity: Original Sin either original sin 2and BG3The story cinematics, which also showed player choices and character interactions, were a first for Larian.
“But the fact that, when people started to see the options cinematically, what impact does it have on the players, how do they tie into the characters and the attractions and options of the game,” he added. “So I think that was probably my biggest takeaway from the whole thing, yeah, for sure.”
In the same interview, Vincke confirmed that the game has been in development for two years and is now in full production. The director also said that Divinity “most likely” will receive an early access period as BG3but he says Larian isn’t there yet.
“I don’t want to commit to that now, because we don’t know how the gaming industry will change. We’re not ready to do anything in early access yet, but I think it’s worked well for us in the past,” Vincke explained.
“We rely on the gaming community and their feedback, and that has made all of our games that were in early access much better. So yes, I think we would really like to do it again. But that being said, we don’t want too many people playing in early access, because we need to ‘cook’ and it’s still a development period. So that could be a little problematic, but we’ll see.”
