A Division II basketball player is dead after he was shot in the head at a party in the pool.
Jamamarion Brown by Henderson State was killed last week at the age of 23 in an incident that left two other injured, according to the Sheriff’s office of the Camp County.

“With a deep sadness that Henderson State Athletics cries the death of the male basketball student Junior Jamarion Brown,” the university said in an online statement. “‘Jo’ spent only one season in Arkadelphia, but its impact on our campus was deep.”

“No word can express our sadness for the family, friends and teammates of Jamarion,” added chief coach Jimmy Elgas. “The impact of Jo was felt not only on the basketball court, but on the entire fabric of Henderson State University, and we all cry together. His loss leaves a tremendous emptiness on our campus, but Jo will be remembered and honored in our hearts forever.”
KLTV reported that the authorities responded to a party in the pool in Camp County in Texas after multiple calls reported a shooting. Henderson was found seriously injured, while the other injured had gunshot wounds that were not potentially mortal.

A helicopter arrived on the scene, but Brown was too injured to be fly immediately. He was taken to a nearby hospital, then flown to another in Tyler, where he was declared dead.

The Camp County Sheriff’s office arrested onterrian Jamour Newton, 17, earlier this week in relation to the mortal shooting. He faces a murder position and other additional pending positions, police said.

“It was a brilliant light for all who knew him, remembered for his warm spirit, deep commitment to family and passion for basketball,” said an obituary for Brown.
“Basketball was one of Jamarion’s greatest passions, a game that played with heart, discipline and joy. His other passion was the family: the center of his life and the source of his strength. Either on or off the court, the kindness, determination and dedication of jamarion were evident in everything he did …
“Although his time with us was too short, Jamarion’s life was full of purpose and love. He leaves innumerable appreciated memories and a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of meeting him.”
Brown averaged 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds last season. It was his first year with the Reddies after he spent two years in Southwestern Christian College.
