Sabalenka was questioned about describing her opponent as “annoying.”

“You said in advance that Laura has an annoying game in a complementary way,” said a journalist.

Sabalenkka clarified quickly and explained that Siegemund previously described his game as “annoying”, which suggests that he created a frustrating experience for those who compete against her.

“I didn’t say that,” replied the 27 -year -old. “No, no, no, I didn’t say that … They asked me the question that she said she had an annoying game. I didn’t say that, just to make that clear.”

“It’s not as if it were an annoying game. It’s an intelligent game,” said Sabalenka. “She really is making everyone work against her, and entering the game against her, you know you have to work for each point.”

“It doesn’t matter if you are a great server, if you are a great batter, you have to work. You have to run and you have to win the victory. Honestly, I was just trying to concentrate on myself and make sure that I would not give her that energy. I did not want her to see that I was annoying or anything for her, even if she was a little at some points. But I was just trying not to give her that energy.”

Amanda Anisimova defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the other quarterfinals. Anisimova will face Sabalenka in Thursday’s semifinal.
