One of the things I miss about the 1980s, apart from my youth, my waist and my faith in humanity, is the Bombox. Boombox is one of the most important parts of audio technology ever performed: it took music from the bedroom or living room and in the streets, rap battles more than the soundtrack and breakdance and change of pop culture for better.
And now it’s back! Back! BACK!
The new We are Rewind GB-001 looks like a boombox. Play tapes like a boombox. And recorded in those tapes like a boombox. But it also comes with some very welcome improvements on the devices of the 80s in which it is clearly inspired.
We are Rewind GB-001 BOOMBOX: key features and prices
The big differences are the batteries and Bluetooth. The first means that your Bombox will not have the battery habit that I remember from my Sanyo Long-Gone: the 3,000 mAh rechargeable battery and replaceable by the user is good for 10 hours in speakers and 15 with headphones.
Second, there are Bluetooth 5.4 so you can transmit from your smartphone if you prefer not to wear a portfolio full of audio tapes with you. You can also connect an external sound source through the 3.5 mm connector or use an external microphone for recording.
It is also much stronger than my boombox: 104W of power courtesy of the amplification of class D.
The specification includes dynamic power control to reduce distortion, Dolby B emulation for those noise reduced cassettes and normal tapes (type I) and chrome (type II). And at 6.81 kg (just under 15 pounds) it is not so heavy that you will not want to take it anywhere.
The new Boombox presents today, May 15, in the high loyalty show of Munich 2025 of Munich 2025, we are planning to track it there as soon as possible. There is still no confirmed launch date, but the official price is very reasonable at £ 379 / € 449 (around $ 505 / Au $ 781).
