The second year student Clara Adams, from North Salinas High School, ended in second place in the preliminary and left the starting line quickly in the final and went to first place, or so thought.
Adams celebrated with his father after winning the race. He took a fire extinguisher from his father and sprayed his shoes with him, alluding to her being in flames, Monterey Herald reported. Clara’s father, David, said the celebration was far from the opponents.
“She did not lack respect for anyone,” he told The Outlet.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) determined that Adams’s celebration was unsportsmanlike, and the Adams State Championship was carried. She was also disqualified from the meeting and lost the opportunity to compete in the 200 -meter race too.
David Adams told The Outlet that CIF’s decision was protested and said he felt that disqualification was “racially motivated.” Clara Adams is black.

The decision was confirmed.
“It’s a very unfortunate event,” Alan Green told Monterey Herald. “We are all disconsolate. Clara ran an incredible 400 race and is the fastest 400 -meter girl in the state.
“I was trying to have fun in the finish line after 400. It was interpreted as an unsportsmanlike. What incredible season and race. It is unfortunate.”
Clara Adams said later that she felt she was “stolen” and was “in shock.”
Pak Gazette Digital contacted CIF to comment.
Adams ended first in the 400 -meter race in the Championship of the Central Coast section and ended first in three races in the Masters of the Athletic League of the Coast of the Pacific coast.
