Pakistan’s weather authorities have issued a warm wave warning for most parts of the country, with temperatures that are pronounced well above average levels in the next four to five days.
According to the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD), daytime temperatures will remain from 5 to 7 ° C above seasonal averages in the northern and central regions, including Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Cashmira and Gilgit-Baltistan, from May 15 to May 15.
In the southern half of the country, including Sindh, Southern Punjab and Baluchistan, the heat wave is expected to last up to at least May 20, with temperatures that probably remain from 4 to 6 ° C above normal.
The PMD said the conditions are being driven by the persistent continental plane and a high pressure high pressure system in the upper atmosphere, grabbing large parts of the country from Thursday.
“A warm and dry climate is expected in most regions, with extremely high temperatures in the plains,” said prognostic officer Usama Ali Zuberi.
In the last 24 hours, very hot conditions were observed in lowland areas. The highest temperatures were recorded in Dadu (48 ° C), Jacobabad (47 ° C) and several cities, which reach 45 ° C, including Sibbi, Tobat, Sukkur, Rohri and Rahim Yar Khan.
The forecasts for the cities of the South key do not show immediate relief. Dadu is expected to reach its maximum point between 47–51 ° C during the next three days, while Nawabshah, Mithi and Mohenjo-Daro will probably move between 42–48 ° C. It is forecast that Karachi, with greater moisture, will reach up to 40 ° C.
Residents have been advised to limit outdoor activities, remain hydrated and take precautions against heat stroke.
