A judicial magistrate acquitted on Wednesday to the prime minister on political and public matters, Rana Sanaullah, in a case related to a concentration of Pakistan democratic movement (PDM) held in Gujranwala in October 2020.
Sanaullah was accused of allegedly trying to run over police personnel and eliminating a container during the protest of the opposition alliance. The case was presented under the then government of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI).
Judicial magistrate Sidrah Gill Nawaz ruled that the Prosecutor’s Office could not corroborate the accusations, which led to the acquittal of Saraullah. The case was registered at the Satellite Town police station.
The leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) had previously faced an arrest warrant not in December for repeated absences in court.
The first information report (FIR) included charges under the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC), specifically sections 149, 147, 186, 353 and 324.
Several other defendants, including Salman Khalid Butt, Imran Khalid and former federal minister Khurram Dastgir, had already been acquitted.
Initially, the Police had delayed the presentation of the Challan against Sanullah, and the court rejected a report presented by the investigators before summoning the politician.
