- Cybernews found an important database that belongs to the Sydney tools that run out of line online
- Exposed employee and customer data
- Up to 34 million orders could be exposed
Millions of Australians (and possibly others) may have had their confidential information exhibited on the Internet due to an escape from an important retailer.
Researchers from Cybernews He discovered a huge exposed clickhouse database that belongs to Sydney Tools, an Australian retailer who specializes in electric tools, manual tools and industrial equipment for merchants and joint enthusiasts.
According to reports, the database contains tickets that belong to both Sydney Tools employees (current and previous) and customers.
Millions of customers
For employees, there are more than 5,000 tickets that contain complete names, employment branches, salaries and sales objectives. Since Sydney Tools apparently has about 1,000 employees, it is safe to assume that most entries in this category fall into former employees.
While the payment or bank information was not exposed here, there are still many “ingredients” for a dangerous phishing or an identity robbery cocktail.
Leaving the employees aside, the leaked database also spilled more than 34 million online purchase records.
These contained names of people, email addresses, housing addresses, telephone numbers and ordered elements, which worsens this part of the filtration.
“The leaked data are confidential, since it included extensive information on personal identification in large volumes, as well as confidential information about which clients bought expensive items and the salaries of their employees,” the researchers said.
He Cybernews The report was published at the end of March 2025 and said that, at the time of publication, the file was still exposed on the Internet and with data leaks. The researchers said they tried to contact Sydney’s tools to close the file, but were not successful.
Unprotected databases remain one of the biggest causes of data leaks today.
Sydney Tools offers a wide range of products from the main brands, which include tools for construction, automotive and carpentry applications. The company operates online and through physical stores throughout Australia.
