- NYBCE suffered a cyber attack in January 2025, exposing sensitive data of patients and financial
- Victims may include those with SSN, identification numbers or direct deposit information; Exact unknown count
- NYBCE cannot notify all victims due to the lack of contact information, offers free identity monitoring in place
A non -profit organization of the US blood services.
New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCE) confirmed that he saw an intrusion on January 26, 2025, which caused an investigation with the help of third -party forensic experts. The investigation determined that the unidentified threat actors accessed their network a week before, on January 20, and during that time the patient’s confidential information is sneaked.
“To perform these services, we receive limited clinical information from suppliers and medical care partners. Part of this information may have been involved in a cyber security incident that we recently address,” says the notice.
Notifying the victims
In a separate presentation before Maine’s office, NYBCE confirmed the incident, but did not list the exact number of affected people.
He said that the data vary from person to person, but most likely it includes its name, Social Security number (SSN), driver’s license or other government identification card and/or financial account information, if the person participated in direct deposit.
In the announcement of the website, the organization also said that “limited health information and test results” may also have been stolen.
But the worst part is that NYBCE cannot correctly notify all victims:
“We do not collect or maintain contact information for people for whom we provide clinical services. As a result, we cannot send letters to people whose information may have been involved,” he also announced.
Therefore, people who could have been affected are recommended to call the organization’s confidential call center.
NYBCE also offers a year of free monitoring of credit and identity theft through IdentityWorkssm of Experian, and it is said that it is working on “improving security protocols.”
